I am so sick of watching the fallout from this bailout! I could have told them it wouldn't work as planned. Think about your home budget. If you are any good with money, you would know that if someone bails you out, you will likely go straight back down the same path you went the first time.
I think the way that 700 billion dollars should have been used is to catch up every homeowner who is behind on their house payment and then make them attend financial management classes and no additional credit available to you until you successfully pass the course work.
This would have been much cheaper than giving the banks the money. This bailout only helped them, not you or me. Plus, we are already seeing how some of them are using some of the money they were given. Not only that, but as I saw on 20/20 (I think it was 20/20) they even made banks that didn't need bailed out take money.
