A couple of weeks ago I received a product to try called BugZip. My husband laughed when I explained what it was, however, I did not. I travel a lot with my job and I have recently been concerned about all the news reports of bed bugs infestations. I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a fanatic when it comes to germs and bugs, but this is something I had never thought of.   What is bugzip?  Well its a bed bug encasement.  Sounds interesting, doesn't it?   Anyway...

Last week I had to make a two day trip to New Orleans. I booked a hotel in the heart of the French Quarter. Before I left, I made sure I tossed the package I had received in the car to take with me. The hotel I stayed at was very nice, but I remembered that the one report I had seen about bed bugs was a problem at a really nice hotel. So, before I got out of my car, I opened the package and read the instructions, which were very simple. Put your baggage in the appropriate bag and zip it up before you enter the room.

When you open the package, you see that the plastic it is made of is very slick and surprisingly heavy duty. All of the individually packaged bags are marked with the size so it is easy to tell which bag will fit each suitcase. Once my bags were all zipped in, I checked in. Inside, I used the bag that fits in a dresser drawer to actually lay my clothes in.

It was actually amazing how comfortable I felt about my clothing. When I got up in the morning, it felt good putting my fresh clothes on knowing that NO bugs had crawled on or gotten into my clothes. When it was time for me to leave the hotel, I checked out and took my bags (still in the protective bags) to my car. I unzipped and discarded each bag as I placed my suitcases in my trunk. Easy and quick.

I really like this product. It just makes you feel safe. It is easy to use and probably the only thing that I think would make it even better is if there was some sort of bed cover. Maybe I am a real paranoid person, but going through the efforts of protecting my bags and clothing, somehow I felt real vulnerable when I crawled in the bed. At any rate, if you are concerned about bed bugs and such, BugZip is a great product to take on a trip. I would highly recommend it!
